At the very edge of the chalk downland above Mere on the A303, the dramatic twists & turns of the hillside were often shaped into strip lynchets in medieval times; these have been overlaid by the the tracks of sheep & cattle down the centuries. Late afternoon sunlight reveals and enhances these dramatic shapes.
