The Grey Mare and her Colts

Oil on canvas. 60 x 50cm. £745

The collapsed remains of a Neolithic long barrow – rare in Dorset – still has enormous presence in the landscape. The fresh sea air keeps the limestone clean and bright, yet still allows the growth of lichens in the gnarled surface. The great sweep of Lyme Bay behind probably feels much the same now as it did thousands of years ago.
