Arriving on this extraordinary Devon beach rather late in the day, an atmosphere of intense mystery seemed to pervade the scene. The shade of the cliffs, and the quiet suck of the calm water on the shingle was in stark contrast with the last of the winter sun catching the red sandstone rock stack in the bay. This painting was all about my attempt to capture those differing elements and fix them as a moment in time.
